Our wish list is comprised of items we need the most in order to continue our work in both promoting horse welfare and caring for rescued horses and ponies. If you can help us with any of the following we would be most grateful and happy to promote you, your business or club on our website and newsletters etc.
What do we need?
To continue to build on our small organisation and in order to complete our aims safely and quickly we need the following items for the organisation:
- FEED!
Our number one needed items for donation is feed and suppliments. If you would like to make a difference to a horse's life this might just be the way you can do it. We primarily need:
- Quality Oaten Hay (and lots of it!)
- Rough Cut Oaten Chaff
- Lucerne Hay or Chaff
- Oats - either whole, rolled or crushed
- Lupins - either whole, rolled or crushed
- Barley - either whole, rolled or crushed
- Rice Bran
- Pegasus Liberty Pellets
- Black Sunflower Seeds
- Seaweed
- Rose Hips
- Equilibrium Mineral Mix
- Magnesium suppliment
- Konkhe's Own Gastro Coat
- Konkhe's Own Cell Provide
- Salt
- Garlic
- A dual axle, double horse float
This item is one of the most important our organisation can own. Primarily, it would be used as a horse ambulance. It would need to be specifically fitted with removable partitions, allowing us to safely transport any size horse from a miniature right through to a Clydesdale. It would require to be fitted at all times with a full equine and human first aid kit, would require storage compartments for additional equipment, be fitted to carry portable yards on either side and also be fitted with non slip rubber matting and also extra lining on its interior to help protect a horse should it be very frightened and try to struggle.
This item would be in constant use for not only transporting rescued horses from their previous home to their new one, and of course training and transporting horses during rehabilitation as refusing to load calmly onto a float and being afraid of a float is the number one most common issue for many horses - not just neglected ones.
This float would also be on display at events we hold, horse shows, swap-meets, markets and sales we attend and have a stall at, and would also be used for demonstrations at clinics and open days. A horse float will gain your company or business name maximum exposure. Imagine the hundreds and thousands of people who will see this horse float over the years, who will also take a second glance as not only will it will clearly have our organisation's name and logo painted on it, it will have yours too as a proud sponsor for Second Chance Horse Rescue Inc.
- A portable round-yard
This is another very important item in the work of rescuing and rehabilitating abused, neglected and abandoned horses and ponies. A good solid round yard is rarely available when you need it the most. In order to safely contain and work with a frightened and potentially dangerous horse, a round yard is essential for the safety and well being of not only the horse but also the people working to save it. This is also a maximum exposure item as a round yard would not only be used when in the process of rescuing and re-training, it would also be used frequently in demonstrations at clinics, open-days and events.
- Horse Feed and Supplements
Another necessity that is in constant demand. Horse feed and supplements for our rescued horses is always required. Feed must be of good quality and be free of mould, rodents and insects. Supplements are another item often required to help rebuild a horse to full health and can be used to assist in treatment for almost any problem from severe weight-loss to promoting hoof growth, joint cartilage treatment and calcium supplements and the like.
- Gear and Equipment
New and used horse gear and equipment is always welcome. Have some old stuff you no longer use? Why not donate it to us? Even if we are not able to use some donated items, we often attend swap-meets and can sell items to raise funds for our organisation.
- Company specific dontations/sponsorship
Perhaps your company would like to assist us in a way that directly relates to your business? For instance we often require items such as brochures, leaflets, posters, business cards etc that could be supplied by a printing company in which case your company's logo could be displayed on all printed items. Perhaps your business is involved with another, different product or service? You may be able to help us by donating gift certificates or items we could raffle off at one of our many events.
