Valentine
Second Chance's Valentine |
|
Biography |
Valentine was rescued from a death sentence. This charming mare came to Second Chance's attention at a stock auction where her owners had brought her for sale, remaining anonomous and intending to get rid of her as soon as possible. Valentine's hooves were in a disgusting state (see pic below) and she was also afraid of floats, very reluctant to get on one and she shook in fear every moment she was in a trailer. Her purchase was covered by two wonderful ladies who jointly pitched in to save her and one of these ladies is also fostering her! She is estimated to be 21 years old and was advertised as a Thoroughbred. Since her purchase, we have learned that Valentine has not been handled at all for approximately 7 years prior to her arrival at the sale. She has not seen any Veterinary, Farrier or Dental attention and it is suspected she hasn't been wormed in this time either. Her initial Veterinary consultation revealed that although in general her health isn't bad, she at some point received a hard blow to the head which resulted in several teeth being knocked out. Despite having had some bad experiences and being left alone for so long, Valentine is proved that she is a sweet natured, people-friendly horse and responded so positively to her new 'family' that they could not bear to part with her. Valentine was of course named for St Valentine, plus - she needed a little love. Her rescue was very dramatic including not one, but TWO broken-down cars, several hour's driving and the problem that she very nearly didn't get onto the float! But she was brought to her new home, safe and sound and her rehabilitation went exceptionally well. Valentine has proven herself as a sensible, athletic and eager to do what she is asked even when she isn't sure about something.
