Tsakani

Tsakani

Tsakani the day we picked him up

Biography

Tsakani and his companion, Naboo, came to our attention via the RSPCA. They had been called out regarding the poor condition of a third horse on the property. It was suggested that the owners may consider surrendering the horses over to SC for care and they contacted us as they had run out of feed for the horses and were unable to buy more. The horse that the initial RSPCA call was about, was a lease horse and we've been told he was returned to his owner. This fellow and Nemo came to us.

Due to malnutrition, he had not yet shed out his winter coat properly when he came to us. He also had not had dental care for quite some time and therefore was unable to digest his existing feed as well as he should which contributed to him loosing weight.

This boy's owners also had not provided ad lib water in the paddock. They had a trough on their front lawn and would let the animals out daily for a drink when they remembered. Both horses were collected on the Sunday morning, they had not had water for approximately 48 hours. Tsakani's behaviour reflected that he had been maltreated in the past as when he arrived he did not trust anyone and did not like having people around him. He also has what appears to be nerve damage in his muzzle, giving him a lop-sided look. We have no idea what may have happened to have caused this.

Tsakani now looks fabulous and his trust issues are all but resolved. He has turned into a relaxed, sweet natured and trusting horse thanks to his carers who have done a wonderful job with him. Tsakani is a whole new horse and ready for a home in which to be loved for the rest of his days.

Tsakani is an african name, and means 'be happy'.
