Thowra

Second Chance's Thowra

Biography

Thowra was one of 19 horses and ponies surrendered to Second Chance from the RSPCA of Western Australia, all the animals coming from the same original owner. Second Chance and the RSPCA worked together for some weeks leading up to the rescue and Second Chance had also assisted the Animal Welfare Unit over 12 months before on some of these equines, collecting evidence and offering our equine knowledge to assist with the investigation. Eventually the owner opted to surrender a large number of equines as a part of an operation to reduce herd numbers to a manageable level. The equines were collected by Second Chance volunteers and fostered immediately into specialist care.

Thowra arrived underweight with a body score of 2, neglected hooves and we were informed that Thowra along with a number of other stallions were being kept in a barn in filthy, uncleaned stalls with putrid green water to drink, not recieving turnout or enough feed to keep him in good condition.
