Spud
Second Chance's Superstar |
|
Biography |
Spud was born, raised and trained to be a racehorse. At some point during his short racing career, or just as it ended - Spud was brutally beaten, or badly frightened and hurt in some other way. The evidence of this is in his behaviour when faced with the circumstance in which he was previously abused. Since this time and prior to being surrendered to Second Chance, Whenever he was asked to load onto a horse float, Spud began to react with fear, rearing and trying to run away rather than go near the float. At this stage, nobody could get him within 30 feet of a horse trailer without this reaction. It was perfectly clear that he was expecting to be hit from behind. In an attempt to sort out his issues, his new owner called in the services of Second Chance's own trainer Caron. Caron spent weeks working with him to get him through his fears and she was slowly making noticible progress. However Spud's owner was unwell and not in a position to pay for Caron's ongoing services and she could not work with him herself. It was time to get rid of him. At one stage it looked like the best option was to simply have him destroyed but there was still the fact that his basic nature was kind and sweet. Finally, he was handed over to Second Chance to begin his new life. Spud is available for Adoption. He will make a fantastic friend and all rounder mount for somebody who wants to get him out and enjoy him.
