Rosie
Second Chance's Briar Rose |
|
Biography |
This spirited little girl was one of 7 ponies heartlessly abandoned by their irresponsible owner. Brought to a retired couple’s property on agistment, the owner was under a contract to ensure she was responsible for their full care including feeding, water and handling. This person left them at the property, not ever coming to care for them and not even paying her agistment fees. Eventually the retired couple’s were given authorisation to rehome the ponies by the RSPCA and Shire Rangers after 12 months of them trying to contact the owner to take responsibility for the ponies. Unable to keep buying feed for them, the couple with the help of friends had placed 3 ponies in superb new homes and asked Second Chance to take the last four ponies on. At the moment this filly is mostly untouched and has never had any training in her life. Bringing her home is proving a challenge as her independant and free spirit means her initial halter training is coming along slowly. But she is very intelligent so we estimate she will learn quite fast when she has decided not to fear us. This gorgeous little filly is 2 and a half years old. She has been running wild with her parents for most of her life. She is strong willed and independently minded and we are looking forward to the day this spirited filly will be wowing crowds with her amazing character and presence! Not to mention her beauty. It is expected that Rosie's training will take some time as her first and only contact with humans prior to being surrendered to us was as a yearling, to be cornered and thrown to the floor by several men and held down despite her struggles and screaming in fear. She was sedated then towed behind a vehicle to move her from one paddock to another so naturally Rosie is very wary of humans after such a traumatic experience. Rosie is however coming along amazingly well. She is now happy to be caught and led around, groomed and have her forehooves picked up. Rosie has also accustomed herself to being stabled at night and is learning to respect people rather than fear them. |
