Biography |
Onyx was surrendered with his paddock mate Pacino after their owner contacted SC to ask for help, recognising that she was not able to provide care for them after she found herself in a difficult position. Onyx came with a low body score of 1, and badly overgrown hooves. His owner informed us she had been unable to feed them for a couple of weeks due to financial hardship but had been unable to give them away. Onyx's owner informed us that he had done some dressage in his past, and that he would often toss his head under saddle. She informed our Field Officer when he tosses his head, the rider just needs to wack him between the ears with their whip to make him behave. Examination of his mouth by Master Dentist Mick Field showed that poor Onyx's mouth was a mess. He still had his wolf teeth present which would definately have interfered with the bit and caused him pain, and his teeth were so bad it had put his entire jaw out of correct alignment. Onyx has wonderful conformation, and during his Veterinary exam we discovered not only is he beautifully sound with no evidence of leg injury, stiffness or discomfort (beside the bad feet!) but he also has beautiful expressive and elevated movement. Onyx was supposedly difficult to float however he loaded and travelled very easily for us and we are confident he's going to make some show rider very happy when he's ready for Adoption. |
