Biography |
This gelding and his companion, Nemo, came to our attention via the RSPCA. They had been called out regarding the poor condition of a third horse on the property. It was suggested that the owners may consider surrendering the horses over to SC for care and they contacted us as they had run out of feed for the horses and were unable to buy more. The horse that the initial RSPCA call was about, was a lease horse and we've been told he was returned to his owner. This fellow and Nemo came to us. Tsakani is approximately 8 years old and due to malnutrition, he has not yet shed out his winter coat properly. He also had not had dental care for quite some time and therefore was unable to digest his existing feed as well as he should which contributed to him loosing weight. This boy's owners also had not provided ad lib water in the paddock. They had a trough on their front lawn and would let the animals out daily for a drink when they remembered. Nemo and his companion were collected on the Sunday morning, they had not had water for approximately 48 hours. Tsakani intimidated them a little as he is quite rude on the ground and through inexperienced handling, has learned that he can get away with pushing past people, standing on toes and threatening to kick when he wants to be left alone. Tsakani now looks fabulous however he has deep emotional issues and his behaviour is agressive-defensive. Tsakani acts as though he's always expecting something nasty to happen to him and does not trust anyone. He also has what appears to be nerve damage in his muzzle, giving him a lop-sided look. We have no idea what may have happened to have caused any of this and with time and good treatment, he will come round and learn to trust. Tsakani is an african name, and means 'be happy'. |
