Biography |
Lewis's tale is a sad one. Retired from racing early due to being too slow, Lewis found himself with a young owner. He at some point was badly frightened and as his owner was not experienced enough to help him, he became afraid of letting people get on him so he was sold on. He was passed from home to home for several years and at some point some frightening incident has rocked his confidence in himself and people. His most recent owner had only owned him 2 months when she surrendered him to our care. He was too much for her to handle also with his nervous behaviour and his dread of horse floats. Not knowing what else could be done, Lewis was due to be shot as they were unable to get him onto the float to move him. Two hours before his deadline a friend of his owner called SC to ask for help and one hour before his deadline he was verbally surrendered to our care for a second chance. Two days later the paperwork was complete and a couple of days after that Lewis was picked up thanks to one of SC's dedicted volunteers and the expertise of horseman and excellent trainer Geoff Sandell. Lewis has since proven himself to be a very sweet natured sensible horse, quite bold on the trail and keen to please. He is a great horse to handle and has come through his rehabilitation really well, being a great horse to ride and handle. |
