History

Director Jess Barbour and Levi

Second Chance Horse Rescue Inc. was founded and developed in 2006 by Jessie Barbour, a then junior office all-rounder with a good 12 years background in caring for horses. During her years of horse ownership, voluntary and paid work with horses, she had seen many disturbing sights in a huge variety of circumstances in relation to horses and their well being - or lack of it.

For many years throughout her adolescence Jessie wanted to bring her dream of a rescue and rehabilitation facility to life and at the beginning of 2006 she began to realise that dream - researching the current need for such an organisation and then developing a strategic plan and policies for it. In May 2006 the first awareness-raising event was held and in July 2006 the first Committee Meeting was held. Second Chance was born.

Since that time we have become the most widely recognised equine welfare group throughout Western Australia. We have directly taken in many equines in need from abusive and neglectful backgrounds and several that have been outright abandoned. We have begun an extensive educational program and have developed a range of services for the equine community in relation to our aims.

We hope that you would like to join us as our journey continues and our organisation develops further in its fight against cruelty, neglect and abandonment. Second Chance Horse Rescue Inc. has unlimited enthusiasm and drive to continue our objectives and with your help, the sky is the limit on what we can achieve.
