Harmony

Second Chance's Harmony

Biography

Harmony came to our attention when a concerned person notified us of her plight. We origionally went to see another mare on the same property (SC's Asha) however we could clearly see that without intervention and correct care, she would very quickly end up looking like Asha. We were told that neither mare nor the others owned by this person had been fed in 4 days at the time of our visit.

Harmony was very defensive at the time of surrender and used to attempt to threaten people to get them to leave her alone. She was exceptionally hungry which we believe added to her behaviour and she was also in foal, at the time we collected her. Sadly, Harmony lost the foal some months later. To top it off, Harmony's back and pelvis was out of alignment - most likely from when she was bred which meant she was in a lot of pain all the time.

When she arrived, Harmony was very mistrustful of everyone, men especially however has done a complete turn around in the last 12 months and is a pleasure to have around. Harmony is an ex racer but was not successful and we are going to try to find out more about her, but it is possible that much of her past may be shrouded in mystery forever.

Harmony is now looking for her forever home. SC’s Harmony is a beautiful horse, standing at approx 15.2hh and with excellent conformation. She is a bay Thoroughbred mare, 12 years old. She behaves beautifully under saddle and is a very light, responsive ride. She works well in a group and has three comfortable paces.

Harmony has had limited education and has a lot of potential with the right person, but being very sensitive requires her rider to be soft and very light with the aids. She will not tolerate a heavy handed person. She responds well to firm but fair leadership. She is excellent on the trail and is very relaxed and not bothered by kangaroos, cattle, traffic etc. She self loads into a float without hesitation, is fine with picking up feet, trimming and handling, but doesn't really like people in her personal space.

With the right person who can keep her interested by doing lots of varied stuff, she will be a great adult riders/PC horse and all-rounder. Harmony has no vices and is overall a sensible horse and not spooky. She has been ridden in clinics, both at Brookleigh and at Sunninghill Indoor Arena and was calm, well mannered and a delight to handle each time.

Due to an old injury, Harmony requires regular Chiro/bowen work at the moment however she will get better and stronger over time (particularly with correct work to build up her muscles) and will not need this forever. She is sound.
