Biography |
We were contacted about Cara when one of our Foster Carers noticed that their neighbor's horse was injured. As they could not get into contact with the neighbor they called the Veterinarian immediately as the injury was severe. Cara had stripped her hind leg to the bone, the injury was quite severe and the Veterinarian informed us after attending that the mare had a good chance of recovering 100% sound however would require a lot of rehabilitation and care to ensure this happened. After speaking to the mare's owner, we were told that 6 months prior her original owner who agisted her at the property decided that she'd had enough of horse ownership and wanted to ship the mare to the knackers yard as a convenient way to dispose of her. The property owner agreed to take ownership of her to prevent this happening. However the mare's new owner did not know much about horses and although she lived quite happily with them - when the injury occured they made it clear that they were not in a financial position to give Cara the care she needed. The SC Committee discussed the matter with the attending Field Officer and it was decided that Cara should have her second chance. This exceptionally kind and quiet natured mare was immediately moved to a foster home and is under the watchful eye of her carer who is an experienced Vet Nurse. Cara's recovery time is expected to be much longer than that of SC's Lucky as the injury was a great deal worse however she has a very good prognosis of recovering ridably sound.
