Second Chance's Black Beauty

Biography

This cute mare came to our attention when we were called out to when their owner passed away. Second Chance received an emergency call from the WA Donkey Society who had been called to pick up two donkeys but what they had found had shocked and horrified them, and they were not in a position to deal with what they had found

Apare from being obese and in danger of foundering, Beauty's condition was a lot better than that of her companions. She, along with Velvet whom we think may be her daughter, were wormed, vaccinated, had their hooves seen to regularly and were Vetted immediately.

Toward the end of her rehabilitation, Beauty became very ill with a condition commonly known as 'fatty liver' which meant that her liver was struggling to process the excess fat that was stored in her system - yet another result of being so badly overweight. At first we were really worried that she would not make it and it was touch and go for a couple of days however thanks to the dedicated nursing of Donna Colvin and her staff at Serpentine Veterinary Hospital, Velvet pulled through and quickly returned to health.
