Aphrodite
Second Chance's Aphrodite |
|
Biography |
Aphrodite came to our attention when a tenant at a rental property called us saying the horse had been left on their land by a previous tenant and that they had been given a 3 month deadline ending that Friday to have her removed or their lease would be terminated. Aphrodite's owner had moved out a couple of months previously and when we spoke to them, said they had been unable to find a place to keep the mare and she was schedualed to be taken to the knackery. They asked if we would take her and she was signed over to Second Chance. This mare has had a rough life. At some point her lower jaw had been broken and a piece removed, leaving her with only three lower incisors. Due to the complete lack of dental care, the top incisors had grown into the space and were now digging into what was left of her lower gums. She had a ridge ingrained into her nose where her halter was left on too tight for too long, and a witness claims to have seen her former owner punch her in the face when she was being walked and wanting to get back to her paddock-mate. Her hooves were very short and badly cracked as her former owner 'saw no point' in having them seen to, and she came to us very wary of people. Aphrodite was is not overly frightened and not at all defensive, she is a very sweet and sensible mare and was adopted quickly to an SC member.
