About Us
Mission Statement
Second Chance Horse Rescue aims to promote and educate the public on horse welfare throughout Western Australia to help reduce neglect, abandonment and abuse of these animals. We also aim to provide sanctuary and all necessary care, training and medical attention required to as many abused, neglected and abandoned horses and ponies as possible.
Who Are We?
Second Chance is a small group of dedicated individuals who have been brought together through our love of horses and share a burning desire to help provide a better life for equines. Click here to meet us.
What Do We Do?
At the moment, Second Chance Horse Rescue is a small organisation with limited funds and resources as we are newly established.
We are currently recruiting a team of volunteers and Committee Members willing to assist our cause.
Fund-raising events will be held as often as possible to start the long road to achieving our aims. We are starting several projects which will hopefully result in further funds and also raising further awareness to the plight of hundreds of horses and ponies state-wide.
We are also available for assistance and educational purposes. We can also offer advice and assistance in numerous areas, whether you are having trouble finding reputable instructors and riding schools or if your horse has behavioural problems. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
We have the good fortune of having several ‘experts in their fields’ on board, ranging from an Equine Nutritionist and Behaviouralist, to a Trainer who has had a lifetime of equine experience and has studied up to Second Level in the Monty Roberts training techniques, and several others with various different ranges of expertise.
What Are Our Plans For The Future?
We are striving toward one day having sufficient land and building facilities to run a Rescue and Rehabilitation facility. At this facility, horses and ponies in need of help can find sanctuary and receive all necessary care to bring them back to full health. If they are able to be re-homed, they would then be adopted out to new, loving families.
We will run a sponsorship program, as well as other events to include the public in our mission as much as possible and to boost interest in our work, so our supporters can see for themselves how their money is being used to help these animals.
We also aim to further our educational services from this facility. We will conduct riding lessons, clinics, training for both horse and rider and horse care courses for people of all ages and skill level. These lessons will focus on the correct and safe way to ride and handle horses and will also concentrate on forming a bond of trust and mutual understanding between horse and rider which is paramount in both riding and handling horses on any level.
Other tentative ideas include a racehorse rehabilitation program and possibly a human rehabilitation program based on highly successful projects overseas that use horses as a means of therapy for troubled children, battered women and survivors of abuse.
Ideas are endless and the sky is the limit. We hope you would like to come on board in one capacity or another to help a great cause and to do something positive to make our corner of the world just a little better.
